Taters for Out-Of-Staters!

Standard

There is a museum dedicated solely to vinegar. Yep. It’s in South Dakota. There are actually dozens of food museums scattered throughout the country. We’ve been to several, including the Popcorn Museum in Marion, Ohio and the Tabasco Museum in Avery, Louisiana. On our recent trip north we added another food museum to our been-there-done-that list.

Blackfoot, Idaho is the home to the Idaho Potato Museum. The entire place smells like French Fries, which they sell in an attached cafe. The state’s love affair with the spud is well documented, with displays ranging from agricultural equipment to Mr. Potato Head.

My favorite bit? “Taters for Out of Staters!” If you visit from outside Idaho, they gift you with a potato product as you leave. We got Hungry Jack Instant Potatoes.

Still on my bucket list – the SPAM museum in Minnesota and the Mustard Museum in Wisconsin. Maybe wash that down with a trip to the Dr. Pepper Museum in Texas.
